FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – February 1, 2012
Family law practitioner David Steerman has joined Klehr Harrison as a partner in the firm’s Family Law Group. He spent the last 8 years at Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel.
Steerman brings with him his associate, Helen Lafferty, and his family law paralegal, Peggy Rubin.
“I will miss my partners and colleagues at Obermayer, but I am extremely excited about the move to Klehr, where I will Chair the firm’s Family Law Group. Bill Harvey, the firm’s Chair, and other partners have expressed their desire to have me lead and expand this area of the firm’s practice. I could not pass up this wonderful opportunity,” Steerman said. “I have worked with Klehr attorneys in family law matters as clients, adversaries and co-counsel, and I have always been impressed with their knowledge, work ethic and dedication to clients.”
Klehr Harrison decided to sharpen its focus on family law in 2008, as many of its private equity and real estate clients became family law clients as well. According to Harvey, the firm began to commit real resources to growing the practice, including some of his own time, in 2010.
“Closing on our recruitment of David is a very big win for us,” Harvey noted. “At a young age, David has established himself as one of the practitioners on the short list for every big case in the region. Our ability to land David is very much a reflection of the traction that Randi Rubin and I have already achieved in this area, as well as his confidence in the partnership that he will be joining. Bringing on such a well-respected and established producer to lead our group is the natural next step for us. I will continue to practice part-time with the group and provide whatever assistance I can.”
Randi Rubin, a senior associate at the firm, transitioned her practice from real estate and finance to family law, and the firm began to actively look for lateral hires to grow the practice. Harvey and Rubin both knew Steerman as a very talented practitioner and started discussions with him about making the move. “The opportunity to build a family law practice into a force to be reckoned with, along with Klehr’s profitability as an organization, helped seal the deal with respect to my decision to make the move,” Steerman said.
Rubin said, “I have known David professionally and personally for years and I am very excited about working with him and his group. David joining the firm and chairing Klehr’s family law practice solidifies the organic growth of our family law practice and will enhance the depth and breadth of our practice.
