Effective Friday, April 10, 2020 at 8:00 p.m., only essential construction projects are permitted to continue in New Jersey. Essential projects include projects involving healthcare services, transportation and utility, affordable housing, schools, manufacturing or distribution facilities for businesses that sell “essential” products, work to secure the structure and safety of buildings and construction sites, and residential building projects subject to contractual deadlines.
Executive Order No. 122 further imposes broad new requirements on essential businesses, including the implementation of social distancing programs, mandatory use of face masks and gloves by retail employees, limiting the number of people in stores, and establishing store hours exclusively for high-risk individuals. Businesses must require and provide face coverings and gloves for employees.
New Jersey is among the only states which has implemented broad restrictions on businesses without launching a formal process to apply for waivers or exemptions.
