PHILADELPHIA (September 21, 2022) – Klehr Harrison Harvey Branzburg LLP is excited to announce the formal formation of an Education practice group which will focus on higher education institutions as well as K-12 institutions. The practice is led by Corporate and Securities Department Chair Bill Matthews and Litigation Partner Lisa Lori.
“Having recently taken on a leadership role in the Law Firm Alliance’s higher education practice, I’ve seen the unprecedented challenges facing educational institutions,” said Lori. “Klehr Harrison’s expanded focus to include K-12, as well, further reinforces our commitment to helping guide and advise these important clients.”
“Lisa and I are both active members of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP) and have extensive experience working with academic institutions,” said Matthews. “We see the impacts of this crucial sector, as do many other attorneys at the firm, who have also served educational organizations in various capacities.”
Both Lori and Matthews are intimately familiar with the challenges faced by educational institutions having served on several school boards. Matthews has served on La Salle University’s Board of Trustees since 2007 and recently completed a term as Chair. He also serves on the Finance and Budget Committee of the Board of Trustees of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary and as Chair of the Strategy Committee for the Board of Trustees of La Salle College High School. Lori is the Chair of the Board of Trustees for Marywood University as well as a member of the Board of Directors for Jefferson University Physicians.
Matthews concentrates his practice in securities, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate counseling for a wide range of clients, including family-owned businesses, emerging growth businesses, universities and public companies. In addition, Matthews frequently acts as “outside general counsel” to his clients, representing them on all corporate and financial matters and coordinating other legal issues, ranging from litigation to intellectual property to regulatory matters. He regularly reviews commercial agreements, negotiates employment matters and advises on litigation and regulatory issues.
He received his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame and his B.A. from La Salle University, maxima cum laude.
