Klehr Harrison Attorneys Present on Delaware Law to Chinese Attorney Delegation

PHILADELPHIA (October 23, 2024) – Klehr Harrison Harvey Branzburg LLP is proud to share that attorneys Richard M. Beck and Caixia Su were recently invited as special guests to speak at a U.S.-China Legal Community Dialogue on the topic of Delaware Law. Beck and Su both work in the firm’s Wilmington, DE office. Beck, a partner in the Litigation Department and Bankruptcy and Restructuring Department, and Su, an associate in the Litigation Department, attended as specialists in the area of Delaware Law and presented on the state of Delaware’s judicial system and entity formation process.

The event was organized by Intelligeast, a Chinese legal intelligence company, and the Asian American Bar Association of New York. Held at the JAMS Center in the New York Times Building in New York City on October 3, 2024, a delegation of attorneys from law firms located in New York City met with 46 attorneys from law firms across China. The Chinese delegation was made up of managing partners and senior partners from their respective firms.

“There is a tremendous amount of interest in the workings of the corporate and judicial systems of Delaware,” explained Beck. “The business-friendly nature of the state is especially enticing to overseas and cross-border businesses. It was a privilege to be able to participate in this conversation and help share our insights and foster new relationships with a very receptive group.”

“These types of international dialogues are extremely important to the exchange of ideas and educating others on the legal nuances found not only in different countries but states within those countries, as well,” added Su. “While traveling home to China to visit friends and family earlier this year, I had a similar opportunity to meet with attorneys at some of the top law firms in China. I was able to introduce our firm’s service areas and expertise and share my perspectives on practicing law in the U.S.”

Beck practices complex business litigation and corporate bankruptcy and is regularly involved in commercial disputes in the Federal and State Courts in Delaware and throughout the United States. He represents businesses and other constituencies in complex litigation and bankruptcy and regularly practices before the Delaware Court of Chancery, the Complex Commercial Litigation Division of the Delaware Superior Court, and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

In addition to his trial practice, Beck has advised clients in a diverse array of specialized engagements, including representing assignees for the benefit of creditors in voluntary assignment proceedings in the Delaware Court of Chancery, representing independent directors and other independent fiduciaries in corporate investigations, representing businesses in out-of-court restructurings and Article 9 transactions, participating in litigation and restructuring cases in Canada in connection with cross border disputes, and being retained as an expert witness on Delaware corporate law and Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Su focuses her practice on corporate and complex commercial litigation, including assisting with the various stages of legal proceedings and trial preparation by conducting legal research; drafting memoranda; and reviewing contracts, pleadings, and discovery.

She has an extensive legal education background in both China and America. Prior to moving to America, Su held three law degrees in China. She taught as a law professor for over a decade in China at Zhongnan University of Economics & Law. In addition, she has published four academic books and more than 70 papers in China.
