PHILADELPHIA (June 2, 2025) – Klehr Harrison Harvey Branzburg LLP is proud to share that Christopher J. Leavell, an associate in the Bankruptcy and Restructuring Department, was recently elected to the Board of Directors for Project 440, a nonprofit whose mission is to teach young people how to use music as a pathway to forge opportunities for themselves and ignite change in their communities. Joseph H. Conyers, principal bassist of The Philadelphia Orchestra, is a founder and board member of Project 440, which also includes board members from the Curtis Institute, the University of Pennsylvania, Merrill Lynch, and other leading organizations.
Leavell concentrates his practice on creditors’ rights, commercial bankruptcy and litigation in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Bruce I. Fox, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Since joining the firm, he has represented clients in and out of bankruptcy proceedings, including institutional lenders, commercial landlords, receivers, trustees, shareholders, product distributors, and other business entities.
He has been involved in several high-profile commercial disputes, notably a shareholder suit under the Pennsylvania Securities Act that was recently heard by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court as an issue of first impression. Leavell briefed and argued the case before the Court, securing a unanimous victory for his client.
In addition to his legal work, Leavell is an accomplished classical musician. He studied viola performance at The Juilliard School while completing his undergraduate studies at Columbia University. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from Rutgers University School of Law.
