McDonald Joins Corporate and Securities Department Leadership at Klehr Harrison

PHILADELPHIA (December 11, 2023) – Klehr Harrison Harvey Branzburg LLP is pleased to announce that effective January 1, 2024, Matthew M. McDonald will step into a new leadership role as Co-Chair of the firm’s Corporate and Securities Department. In this new role, McDonald will join William W. Matthews, III, who has served as the Chair of the Corporate and Securities department since 2019, in leading the department. Under Matthews’ leadership during that time, the firm’s Corporate and Securities Department has more than doubled in size, and Matthews has led a number of significant new initiatives, including the successful launch of specialized practice groups focused on education and venture capital. With McDonald’s addition, the leadership team now boasts over 50 years of combined experience in corporate work.

McDonald, who joined the firm in 2019, has focused his efforts at Klehr on expanding the firm’s already strong M&A practice group. As Co-Chair, McDonald will expand his role to support Matthews’ strategic and business leadership of the department, while also focusing on new initiatives, associate development and hiring. The move comes as part of the firm’s overall strategic plan to identify and develop new leaders.

“Matt is an exceptional attorney and a consistent, important voice in our department,” said Matthews. “I am excited to continue working together closely with him as he transitions into this new role.”

“Matt has been instrumental to the growth of our M&A practice and an invaluable contributor to the success of our corporate department, ”added Managing Partner Brad Krouse. “He has been a strong mentor to our younger lawyers and a well-respected resource to his fellow partners.”

“I appreciate the opportunity to work with Bill to continue his work in growing Klehr’s Corporate and Securities Department,” said McDonald. “Klehr Harrison has become my home over the last few years, and I look forward to taking a larger role in the firm’s direction.”

McDonald’s broad-based legal skills have been honed through both private practice and in-house positions. Prior to joining Klehr Harrison, McDonald served as Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at GAIN Capital Holdings, Inc., at the time an NYSE-listed provider of foreign exchange and over-the-counter derivative trading services. His in-house experience gives him a practical perspective and allows him to provide insight into what is truly important when advising business executives and other clients. Before working at GAIN Capital, McDonald spent fourteen years as an associate and partner in the corporate and securities department of a large Philadelphia-based law firm.

He earned his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Texas A&M University.
